ART FIELDS 2016 COMPETITION ARTIST
FEATURED AT MOSAIC CLOTHING
Light surrounds us. It brings us life, health, sight, and understanding. In this work, I am interested in how humans perceive light and how it can change, reflect, project through, and intensify an object. The United Nations declared 2015 to be the year of light. Through this endeavor, they are educating the public on how light works. I am using NASA’s data on light in space. By eliminating the dark matter of space in my images, I am able to explore the complexity of how light works without the darkness. I am using transparent and reflective materials to utilize light in the composition as much as possible, the shadows that the light creates on the walls behind the surface of the glass IS reflections of my own “space.” Through this work, I hope to inspire education on light’s properties, a contemporary view on light, and an appreciation for the complexities and impact the sun’s light has on our lives.
